FestivALT is a Jewish arts collective that produces an annual program of critically minded art and activism in Kraków, Poland. It invites professional artists from Poland and around the world to create work that addresses the the complications of Jewish Poland today. Blending visual art, theater, site-specific performance, activist intervention, and community conversation, FestivALT challenges assumptions, engages with difficult realities, and inspires new ways of thinking.

Kraków is widely recognized as one of the centers of Jewish revival in modern-day Poland. This revival is complicated—as fractious as it is full of promise, as tangled as it is exciting. It includes several local Jewish communities, visiting Jews with varied perspectives on Jewish life and loss in Poland, and non-Jewish Poles drawn to Judaism and Jewishness (some with Jewish heritage themselves). Jewish renewal in Kraków is caught between the legacies of the Holocaust and Communist repression, as well as the current tides of tourism and gentrification.

FestivALT operates at the intersection of these forces, creating experimental, pathbreaking artwork and establishing an inclusive platform for conversation, reflection, and debate around the vital issues in contemporary Jewish Poland. FestivALT's work has been covered in Vice, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, The Forward, and several Polish news outlets.

For the third edition of FestivALT, we are raising money to better support our artists, reach a wider audience, and produce work that can be sustained throughout the year. Our goal is $60,000—we're about a third of the way there. We are asking you to help us meet our goal.
