Mountain Woman

We designed a monument at 5100m just at the foot of Kangchenjunga in tribute to one of the greatest mountaineers in history.

She was saying "Everyone has their own Everest to climb" motivating us to set up high goals in life. 

Setting goals gives your life direction, and boosts your motivation and self-confidence.

WANDA RUTKIEWICZ (04.02.1943—13.05.1992) was one of the most outstanding Himalayan climbers of all time. On 16 October 1978 she was the third woman ever, the first European woman, and first Polish climber to conquer Mount Everest.

In 1986, she was the first woman in the world to stand atop K2, the second highest peak in the world.

She was the brainchild behind and leader of a number of women’s high-altitude expeditions, in 1975 organising an expedition to Gasherbrum III (7946 m), a record height for the first ascent in which a woman participated.

Wanda Rutkiewicz conquered Nanga Parbat (8126 m) in 1985 and Shishapangma (8013 m) in 1987, Gasherbrum II (8035 m) in 1989, Gasherbrum I (8068 m) in 1990, Cho Oyu (8188 m, alone) in 1991, and Annapurna I (8091 m, alone) in 1991.

Guarding India’s border with Nepal, Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, was an important milestone in her ‘Caravan to the Dreams’ project, which sought to conquer the Crown of the Himalayas and the Karakorum—the 14 ‘eight-thousanders’.

Although Wanda’s body was never found, 13 May 1992, the day after she was seen for the last time, has been officially recognised as the date of her death.

The legend says that "White Woman" came back from the top of Kangchenjungathe to another side of Nepal and is still alive in the Buddhist monastery. She would now be 79 years old.

Zaprojektowaliśmy pomnik w 30 rocznice zaginięcia jednej z najwybitniejszych himalaistek w historii -Wandy Rutkiewicz pod Kanczendzonga (8586 m).

 WANDA RUTKIEWICZ (4.02.1943 - 13.05.1992) - jedna z najwybitniejszych himalaistek wszechczasów. 16 października 1978 roku jako trzecia kobieta w historii, pierwsza Europejka i pierwsza osoba z Polski zdobyła Mount Everest. 

W 1986 roku jako pierwsza kobieta na świecie, stanęła na szczycie K2 – drugiego pod względem wysokości szczytu świata. 

Była pomysłodawczynią i liderką kobiecych wypraw wysokogórskich. W 1975 r zorganizowała wyprawe na Gasherbrum III (7946 m). Jest to rekord wysokości pierwszego wejścia z udziałem kobiet. 

Wanda Rutkiewicz zdobyła w 1985 roku Nanga Parbat (8126 m), w 1987 r. Shishapangma (8013 m), w 1989 r. Gasherbrum II (8035 m), w 1990 r. Gasherbrum I (8068 m), w 1991 r. Czo Oju (8188 m, samotnie) i w 1991 r. Annapurna I (8091 m, samotnie). 

Choć nigdy nie odnaleziono ciała Wandy, 13 maja 1992, dzień po tym, gdy była po raz ostatni widziana, oficjalnie uznano za datę jej śmierci.
