Hi Friends and Family!
My mom (Mimi) is treating a patient with cancer, who escaped from Kharkov, the second largest city of Ukraine and one of the worst hit in the war. Mrs. Iryna fled with her daughter and her two grandchildren (a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy). The husband and son of Mrs. Iryna stayed to fight. They left with next to nothing, with each woman carrying a child and a small suitcase. They are staying in a hostel in Lodz (Poland) and somehow haven't received any aid/packages with clothes, hygiene products or food.
They can stay there for free for up to a month and then they will have to pay 400 PLN ($100) per person per month. Both women want to get jobs while they wait and hope to be able to come back home to their husbands. The daughter-in-law is an excellent baker (she made the cake featured in the attached photo) and Mrs. Iryna can clean but open jobs in Poland are very limited right now.
Mrs. Iryna just underwent surgery and now has to stay isolated from her family for a couple of weeks (due to the radiation therapy) and she will stay with my mom's boss during that time. Both grandchildren arrived with stomach problems and had to spend a few nights in a hospital. They have just left today.
My mom's boss also helped her open a bank account and get a Polish equivalent of an social security number and we are going to help them to sign for social and refugee aid.
All of the funds we raise will go directly to her and her family, and we will continue to help her on the ground.
Please help us get this very nice family the support they need right now!
With love,
Nina
P.S. For all of our American friends, this is a secure website (Poland's version of GoFundMe.com) and $1 equals just over 4 PLN (so 100 PLN is equal to just under $25 USD).
